Physical Therapy: The Elbow

The elbow is the link between the hand and shoulder/shoulder blade.

The function of the elbow is to allow the hand and wrist to be positioned. The use and positioning of the hand depends on the functioning of the elbow.

It is made up of three joints and many ligaments, muscles and tendons.

Signs and symptoms of elbow injury are common with manual workers, sports persons and persons who require dextrous and intricate use of their hands.

Signs and symptoms of elbow injury usually arise from the front, back and sides of the elbow. They can radiate down to the wrist and fingers and up to the shoulder and neck.

Because the cervical spine and shoulder can produce signs and symptoms to the same body regions, a careful and thorough assessment will need to be performed to differentiate the cause.

Our physical therapists will assess your condition and design the correct treatment plan. Duffy & Bracken Physical Therapy, Wellness and Fitness takes patients beyond therapy. With our reknowned physical therapists and musculoskeletal experts we analyze the cause of your pain, fix and design programs to prevent it from coming back. Our various aftercare programs can build long lasting functional skills. Not only does it improve performance in sport and in life, but it keeps patients pain free and prevents future injuries, surgeries and arthritis.

We've assessed and treated many diagnoses, including:

  • Fractures: traumatic, avulsion, stress
  • Arthritis
  • Tendonitis
  • Osteochondritis
  • Lateral epicondylitis, tennis elbow or golfer's elbow
  • Nerve entrapments
