Neck

The area of signs and symptoms originating from the cervical spine can present and radiate into the head, neck, jaw, chest, upper back, shoulder, arm, wrist, fingers and rarely into the low back and lower extremities.

These signs and symptoms include pain, weakness, stiffness, dead arm feeling, pins and needles, numbness, and clumsiness.

A formal physical therapy assessment is needed to verify whether the signs and symptoms are coming from the cervical spine or other sources.

Diagnosis is your doctor's responsibility. Assessment and correct treatment is your physical therapist's responsibility.

We've assessed and treated many diagnoses, including:

  • Headaches
  • Migraines/Vertigo
  • Cervical disc herniation and prolapse
  • Cervical spondylitis/arthritis
  • Cervical nerve entrapment (pinched nerve)
  • Musculo-tendinitis lesions (sprains/strains)
  • Myofascial pain syndrome, fibromyositis
  • Cervical spine trauma (whiplash)
  • Hypomobility lesions (stiff neck)

Further, a personalized ergonomic and home exercise program will be advised and instructed.

You have the right to see any physical therapist. A referral to Duffy & Bracken Physical Therapy can be obtained from your doctor. Please advise your doctor of our services.

Did You Know?

Your head belongs over your body and between your shoulders. Computer work and slouching tends to lead you to poke your head forward. If you have to move your head forward to see the screen due to poor vision or screen glare this will make your forward head worse. Practice positioning your head properly by pretending the top of your head is being pulled up by a string.
